College softball: Judson (Ill.) 5-8, William Woods 3-5

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. - The Lady Owls slipped to 7-8 on the season after being swept by the Lady Eagles in Wednesday's doubleheader.

William Woods University forced extra innings in the opener when it scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game at 2-all. Judson broke out for three runs in the top of the eighth to take the lead for good and the Owls tacked on a run in their half of the inning.

Junior left fielder Celeste Sermeno finished 2-for-3 with a double and two runs batted in as William Woods collected seven hits. Freshman shortstop Abbi Pringer was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Sophomore first baseman Hanna Knipp - a North Callaway graduate - also went 2-for-3 and scored a run for the Lady Owls.

William Woods freshman starter Mychael Jett went the distance in taking the loss. Jett (2-2) surrendered five runs - three earned - on nine hits, struck out three and walked two.

Sophomore third baseman Alexis Hassler finished 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI as the Lady Owls were limited to six hits in the second game. Senior center fielder Anna Counts was 1-for-3 with an RBI, while Pringer - serving as designated player - also went 1-for-3 and scored two runs.

William Woods senior starter Madison Ausfahl - a North Callaway graduate - worked five innings in suffering the loss. Ausfahl (0-2) allowed five earned runs on nine hits, struck out four and issued four walks.

The Lady Owls wrap up their spring break trip with three games Friday at the Gulf Coast Invitational in Gulf Shore, Ala. William Woods plays Brenau (Ga.) University, No. 8 University of Mobile (Ala.) and Thomas (Ga.) University.
