College baseball: Missouri Baptist 5-11, William Woods 1-3

O'FALLON - The Owls combined for only six hits in being swept by the Spartans in Friday's American Midwest Conference doubleheader at CarShield Field.

William Woods University - which was swept in the three-game series - tumbled to 7-8 on the season and 0-6 in the AMC. The Owls have dropped six in a row.

William Woods' lone run and both hits in the first game came in the top of the fourth inning. Sophomore designated hitter Isaiah Gibbs drew a one-out walk, moved to second on junior third baseman Alex Owens' single and came around to score on sophomore catcher Chase Gibson's single.

Gibson and Owens were both 1-for-2.

Junior starter Logan Bexton went five innings in taking the loss for the Owls. Bexton (1-4) gave up five earned runs on eight hits, struck out three and walked two.

William Woods was limited to five hits in the nightcap, scoring two runs in the third and one in the fourth.

Freshman center fielder Jack Niggemeier finished 2-for-3 with a double and a run batted in for the Owls. Sophomore third baseman Alex Wimer was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

William Woods junior starter Dylan Hansen allowed seven runs - six earned - on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings in being pinned with the loss. Hansen (1-1) recorded five strikeouts and issued three walks.

The Owls play their home opener in an AMC series with Central Baptist (Ark.) College, starting with a noon doubleheader Friday at Backer Sports Complex. The two teams will then play a single game at noon Saturday.
