College women's basketball: Westminster 75, Spalding (Ky.) 70

The Lady Blue Jays outscored the Lady Golden Eagles 11-6 in overtime to halt a two-game St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference losing streak in Saturday's home victory.

Westminster College (6-9, 5-3 SLIAC) carried a 46-40 lead into the fourth quarter, but needed a dramatic shot to force the extra period. Sophomore guard Abbie Reece buried a 3-pointer with 22 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 64-all.

Spalding University took a 70-68 lead when Hunter Wright hit a pair of free throws with 3:26 left in overtime, but the Lady Golden Eagles went scoreless the rest of the way.

Sophomore guard Reese Arnold then put the Lady Blue Jays on top to stay at 71-70 when she knocked down a 3 on their ensuing possession.

Reece logged 15 points to pace three players in double figures for Westminster, which shot just 38 percent (27-of-71) as a team. Arnold was next with 13 points and junior guard Kallee Dowler contributed 10.

Senior forward Mikalyn Callahan grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds as the Lady Blue Jays were edged 40-39 on the boards.

Maleah Hirn made 7-of-12 shots - including 3-0f-7 from 3-point range - to direct Spalding (7-8, 5-3) with a game-high 19 points. Wright supplied 17 points as the Lady Golden Eagles shot only 35 percent (23-of-65) from the field.

Westminster travels to MacMurray (Ill.) College for a SLIAC contest at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
