College women's basketball: William Woods 71, Stephens 41

COLUMBIA - Senior guard Kaycee Gerald scored a game-high 16 points and the Lady Owls rolled to their fifth American Midwest Conference win in a row in Thursday night's blitz of the Stars.

William Woods University (13-4, 8-4 AMC) raced to a 20-4 lead after one quarter and was up 34-19 at halftime. The Lady Owls then outscored Stephens College 21-13 in the third quarter to stretch their advantage to 55-32.

Gerald was 8-of-11 from the field as William Woods shot 55 percent (33-of-60) as a team. Senior guard Ashleigh Frampton knocked down 6-of-7 shots to supply 13 points.

Senior guard Peyton Greenlee collected a team-high seven rebounds to spur the Lady Owls to a 39-30 advantage on the boards.

Maddison Schaeffer had 11 points as the only player to reach double figures for Stephens (5-10, 1-9), which shot a meager 29 percent (15-of-51) from the field and committed 23 turnovers.

William Woods travels to College of the Ozarks for a nonconference matchup at 6 p.m. Monday.
