College women's basketball: Fontbonne 76, Westminster 68

The host Lady Blue Jays were outscored by the Lady Griffins 34-24 in the fourth quarter to suffer their second straight St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference loss Wednesday night.

Westminster College (5-9, 4-3 SLIAC) took a narrow 44-42 advantage into the fourth quarter and the contest remained tight. Fontbonne University led by as many as four points, before the Lady Blue Jays went in front 64-62 on senior forward Mikalyn Callahan's layup with 2 minutes, 17 seconds left.

The Lady Griffins pulled even on their ensuing possession when Raven Venegas hit a jumper with 2:01 to play. Fontbonne then took the lead for good 67-64 on Rylee Stafford's 3-pointer with 1:34 remaining.

The Lady Griffins secured the victory by connecting on 9-of-10 free throws in the final 1:15.

Callahan - who was 10-of-18 from the field - logged a game-high 22 points to direct four players in double figures for Westminster.

Sophomore guard Reese Arnold and sophomore guard Abbie Reece added 11 points apiece and junior guard Kallee Dowler had 10 as the Lady Blue Jays shot just 38 percent (26-of-69) as a team.

Callahan completed a double-double by pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds to help power Westminster to a 40-36 edge on the boards.

Venegas finished with 21 points to pace four players in double figures for Fontbonne (6-8, 5-2), which shot 44 percent (25-of-57) from the field. Stafford was next with 20 points, Riley Guffey supplied 17 and Kourtney White contributed 13.

The Lady Blue Jays will look to get back on track when they host Spalding (Ky.) University in a SLIAC matchup at 1 p.m. Saturday.
