College women's basketball: Spalding (Ky.) 85, Westminster 60

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Lady Blue Jays shot a feeble 32 percent (21-of-66) as a team and committed 19 turnovers in a lopsided St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference loss to the Lady Golden Eagles on Wednesday night.

Westminster College - which defeated Spalding University 75-70 in overtime Jan. 18 in Fulton - fell to 11-13 overall and 10-7 in the SLIAC. The Lady Golden Eagles improved to 14-10 on the season and 12-5 in conference play.

The Lady Blue Jays fell behind 21-10 after one quarter Wednesday night and were down 39-21 at halftime. Spalding then outscored Westminster 29-22 in the third quarter to stretch its lead to 68-43.

Sophomore guard Reese Arnold led the Lady Blue Jays with 13 points and junior guard Kallee Dowler was next with 12.

Senior forward Mikalyn Callahan pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds, but Westminster was outrebounded 41-32.

Allison Just countered with a game-high 23 points to direct four players in double figures for Spalding, which shot 58 percent (28-of-48) from the field and overcame 24 turnovers.

Megan Goeing added 14 points for the Lady Golden Eagles, Maleah Hirn provided 12 and Meagan Hayden chipped in with 10.

The Lady Blue Jays finish their season at home with a SLIAC game against MacMurray (Ill.) College at 1 p.m. Saturday. Westminster lost at MacMurray 66-64 on Jan. 22.
