Men's Basketball: Fontbonne 99, Westminster 71

ST. LOUIS - The Westminster Blue Jays suffered their third St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference loss in a row after being roughed up by the Fontbonne Griffins for a 99-71 defeat Saturday.

Westminster - which was swept in the season series by Fontbonne - dropped to 8-14 on the season and 7-9 in the SLIAC.

The Blue Jays were only down 48-38 at halftime, but the Griffins (12-11, 10-6 SLIAC) pulled away by outscoring Westminster 51-33 in the second half.

Junior guard Omar Wright came off the bench to pace the Blue Jays with 14 points. Sophomore guard Landon Harrison contributed 10 points as Westminster shot 45 percent (25-of-56) as a team and committed 23 turnovers.

Freshman forward Will Suellentrop shared game honors by collecting eight rebounds in a reserve role as the two teams each grabbed 34 rebounds.

Anthony Jones finished 8-of-10 from the field in guiding Fontbonne with a game-high 22 points. Noah Coddington chipped in with 11 points as the Griffins shot 51 percent (39-of-76) from the field.

The Blue Jays go to Louisville, Ky., for a SLIAC matchup against Spalding University at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Westminster routed Spalding 84-56 on Jan. 18 in Fulton.
