College women's basketball: Cox, Lady Owls post 10th straight victory

William Woods University sophomore guard Rylie Cox knocked down a game-high 21 points and the Lady Owls pushed their winning streak to 10 games with a 64-55 AMC victory over Lindenwood University-Belleville (Ill.) on Saturday at Anderson Arena.

William Woods - which swept the season series with Lindenwood-Belleville - raised its season record to 18-4 and moved to 12-4 in the American Midwest Conference. The Lady Lynx slipped to 13-7 overall and 9-6 in the AMC.

The Lady Owls were in front 14-13 after one quarter and outscored Lindenwood-Belleville 21-11 in the second quarter to stretch their lead to 35-24. The Lady Lynx replied by outscoring William Woods 19-11 in the third quarter to close within 46-43, but the Lady Owls thwarted the comeback by outscoring Lindenwood-Belleville 18-12 in the fourth quarter.

Cox was one of three players to reach double figures for William Woods, which shot 45 percent (24-of-53) as a team. Senior guard Kaycee Gerald added 14 points and senior guard Ashleigh Frampton provided 12.

Senior guard Peyton Greenlee and sophomore forward Kasey Hazell collected eight rebounds apiece to steer the Lady Owls to a 36-28 advantage on the boards.

Brianna Mueller finished with 12 points to guide three players in double figures for Lindenwood-Belleville, which shot just 39 percent (20-of-52) from the field. Kyndra Morgan was next with 11 points and Zaria Valle contributed 10.

William Woods continues its homestand with an AMC contest against Central Baptist (Ark.) College at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. The Lady Owls bowed at Central Baptist 68-65 on Dec. 19.
