College women's basketball: Lady Owls stay perfect with rout in AMC opener

The William Woods University Lady Owls basketball team stayed on a surge to start American Midwest Conference play.

Senior guard Peyton Greenlee connected for 18 points to direct four players in double figures and William Woods remained unbeaten with an 85-48 blitz of Hannibal-LaGrange University on Thursday night at Anderson Arena.

The Lady Owls (6-0) raced to a 29-15 lead after one quarter and went into halftime with a 44-27 advantage. William Woods then outscored Hannibal-LaGrange 24-11 in the third quarter to open up a commanding 68-38 lead.

Greenlee made 7-of-14 shots - including 4-of-7 from 3-point range - as the Lady Owls shot 54 percent (33-of-61) overall and 59 percent (13-of-22) from behind the arc. Greenlee also pulled down seven rebounds to guide William Woods to a 38-29 edge on the boards.

Freshman forward Carleigh Jenkins added 13 points for the Lady Owls, while senior guard Kaycee Gerald provided 12 points and six assists. Sophomore guard Rylie Cox chipped in with 11 points and five steals.

Emma Anderson was 9-of-14 from the field in logging a game-high 22 points as the only player to reach double figures for Hannibal-LaGrange (2-4). The Lady Trojans shot just 34 percent (19-of-56) as a team and committed 19 turnovers.

William Woods hosts an AMC matchup against St. Louis College of Pharmacy at 1 p.m. Saturday.
