College men's basketball: Central Christian 93, Westminster 91

The host Blue Jays tumbled in their season opener when Rodrigo Nunez delivered the game-winner for the Knights on a layup with 6 seconds to play Monday night.

Westminster College - which led 52-44 at halftime - had one final opportunity to pull off a dramatic victory, but sophomore forward Jaxon Althaus' 3-point attempt was off the mark as time expired.

Althaus hit 9-of-16 shots - including 3-of-8 from behind the arc - to pace four players in double figures for the Blue Jays, who shot 49 percent (34-of-69) from the field.

Sophomore guard Landon Harrison added 16 points for Westminster, junior guard Omar Wright provided 13 and sophomore guard Makygh Galbreath - a Fulton graduate - contributed 10 off the bench.

Harrison pulled down a game-high nine rebounds as the Blue Jays were outrebounded 36-29.

Trey Black - who knocked down five 3-pointers - connected for a game-high 23 points to direct four players in double figures for Central Christian (3-1), which shot 57 percent (38-of-67) as a team.

Clifford Detiege was next with 21 points for the Knights, Josh Crawford logged 14 and Andrew Johnson had 10.

Westminster travels to Storm Lake, Iowa, this weekend for the A-R-C/SLIAC Challenge. The Blue Jays play Buena Vista at 8 p.m. Friday and Simpson at noon Saturday.
