Men's basketball: William Penn (Iowa) 98, William Woods 81

The William Woods Owls were unable to overcome a 48-37 halftime deficit in Saturday's 98-81 loss to the fourth-ranked William Penn Statesmen at Anderson Arena.

Junior guard Ian Hodges - who was 6-of-9 from the field, including 2-of-2 from 3-point range - scored 18 points to lead three players in double figures for William Woods (1-3).

Freshman guard Mike Robinson was next with 15 points and senior guard Treshawn Gause finished with 11 points as the Owls shot 38 percent (27-of-71) as a team.

Freshman center Darius Yohe pulled down a team-high seven rebounds as William Woods was outrebounded 54-42.

Karmari Newman hit eight 3-pointers in connecting for a game-high 26 points to spark five players in double figures for William Penn (4-0). Nathan Gehring had 21 points, Brandon Faison and Dexter Hood added 15 each and Q Cager finished with 11 points as the Statesmen shot 44 percent (36-of-81) from the field.

The Owls remain at home for a matchup against Culver-Stockton at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
