College women's soccer: Webster 1, Westminster 0

FENTON - The No. 4 seed Lady Blue Jays' season ended after a shutout loss to the No. 1 Lady Gorloks in the semifinals of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason tournament Thursday night.

Webster University (14-4-1) tallied the game's only goal in the 30th minute when Melissa Kasper scored off an assist from Savannah Page.

Westminster College - which finished the season with a 6-9-3 record - was decisively outshot by the Lady Gorloks 20-6, including 9-4 in shots on goal. Webster also had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

"Webster always presents a challenge and we looked up to it," Lady Blue Jays head coach Wendy Sanchez said. "In moments we looked strong and focused, executing our game plan.

"Although tonight wasn't the outcome we wanted for our seniors, I'm very appreciative of each player's perseverance and their ability to play their hearts out all season."

Webster faced No. 2 seed Greenville (Ill.) University (11-6-2) for the SLIAC championship Saturday. Greenville advanced by edging No. 3 seed Fontbonne University in Thursday night's other semifinal.
