The host Lady Blue Jays gave new head coach Talisha Washington - a Fulton graduate - her first career victory with a rout in Friday night's season opener in the Tip Off Tournament.
Westminster College was in front 22-15 after one quarter and outscored Illinois College 23-10 in the second quarter to open up a 45-25 advantage at halftime. The Lady Blue Jays carried an imposing 63-31 lead into the fourth quarter.
Sophomore guard Abbie Reece connected for 16 points to spark four players in double figures for Westminster, which shot 42 percent (29-of-69) from the field. Sophomore guard Reese Arnold supplied 14 points and senior forward Mikalyn Callahan and sophomore guard Jackie Arnold both had 13.
Reece pulled down a game-high eight rebounds as the Lady Blue Jays edged the Lady Blues 41-40 on the boards.
Grace Yaunches scored 16 points as the only player to reach double figures for Illinois College, which was also playing its season opener. The Lady Blue Jays shot a dreadful 25 percent (13-of-52) as a team and committed 19 turnovers.
Westminster closed out play in the Tip Off Tournament against Millikin (Ill.) University late Saturday afternoon. Results were not available at press time.
