Women's basketball: William Woods 67, Lincoln (Ill.) 55

LINCOLN, Ill. - Senior guard Kaycee Gerald and sophomore forward Kasey Hazell responded with 18 points apiece to steer the William Woods Lady Owls past the Lady Lynx 67-55 in Saturday's season opener.

Senior guard Peyton Greenlee added 11 points for William Woods, which led 34-25 at halftime and carried a 43-36 advantage into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Owls shot a woeful 33 percent (22-of-67) from the field and survived 22 turnovers. Greenlee grabbed a team-high eight rebounds as William Woods was edged on the boards 47-46.

Erynn Young countered with 18 points to lead Lincoln, which shot a lackluster 33 percent (20-of-60) as a team. Nautica Preston had 13 points.

The Lady Owls travel to Cottey College in Nevada, Mo., at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
