COLUMBIA — The Missouri women opened the basketball season Monday night with a 70-48 victory against Missouri Western in an exhibition game at Mizzou Arena.

Missouri closed the first quarter on a 14-0 run to take a 25-7 advantage. The Tigers increased their lead to 42-16 at the half and took a 62-34 advantage into the final quarter.

Sophie Cunningham led four Tigers in double figures with 15 points. Amber Smith added 12, while Emmanelle Tahane chipped in with 11 off the bench and Akira Levy totaled 10.

Cunningham also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds, while Levy dished out six assists.

Katrina Roenfeldt had 16 points to lead Missouri Western.

Missouri will host Washburn in an exhibition game at 7 p.m. Thursday before opening the regular season next Tuesday at Western Illinois.
