This column serves as a spotlight, highlighting the everyday people who work and live in Callaway County. The Fulton Sun takes a moment with someone who is not usually featured in the news but is just as instrumental in making our community the strong and beautiful place we all know and love.

Jenny Thompson has lived in Fulton for four years. Thompson, who works at the University of Missouri as an electronic resources librarian, grew up in South Carolina and has also lived in North Carolina and Virginia. Thompson and her 2-year-old son Bowen visited the Brick District for lunch Monday.

Q: What was your first job?

I was a lifeguard at a local pool - I grew up in South Carolina.

Q: Who inspires you most?

That is a really tough one. Jane Goodall. I think she is just super altruistic. She's very peaceful and I like the way she's looking to make the world a better place.

Q: What have you done in life that was most fulfilling?

Probably being a mom. I have one son, he's 2 years old. It wasn't something that I thought I had to have, but I always thought I might. I've definitely have had some new experiences that I couldn't have anticipated if I didn't have him. I didn't know how much I'd love being a mom.

Q: What is something you are proud of?

I'm proud of my family and just staying true to myself.

Q: What profession would you like to attempt?

I would like to be a marine biologist or some type of biologist. I love animals and science and getting out to nature.

Q: What profession would you not like to do?

I don't think I'd want to be on stage. I don't think I'd want to be on camera.

Q: What is something no one would guess about you?

I think sometimes people think I'm outgoing, but I'm truly an introvert.

Q: What is your favorite thing about Callaway County?

I love Fulton. I fell in love with the town, with everything. I love being close to downtown - we can walk downtown to go to church or go out to eat or to get to know our neighbors.
