Your words here! The city of Fulton held a competition to choose a new slogan for the sign on U.S. 54, north of the Route H exit.

"Fulton: Small Town with a Big Heart."

Starting soon, those words will greet those who pass through, visit or return home to Fulton.

Fulton City Council members chose that phrase as the winner of a contest to choose a new slogan for the sign on U.S. 54, north of the Route H exit. The winning phrase was submitted by Fulton resident Julie Whitesides, who will be receiving a $100 credit toward her utility bill.

"There was some skin in the game, as we say," Fulton Mayor Lowe Cannell said. "We had lots of good submissions."

Fulton residents submitted about 90 ideas for the contest. A city committee chose five finalists, including the winning slogan plus "Fulton: Your New Journey Begins Here," "Fulton: Big Town Pride, Small Town Living," "Fulton: For a Day or a Lifetime" and "Fulton: Great Place to Visit, Awesome Place to Live."

Previously, the sign read "If you lived in Fulton you'd be home now;" the old lettering was cracked and decaying, Public Information Officer Darin Wernig said.
