Officials to discuss renovation of Kingdom City City Hall

KINGDOM CITY - Members of Kingdom City's board of trustees will discuss a renovation project at city hall tonight.

The board of trustee's regular monthly meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at Kingdom City City Hall, 5584 Dunn Drive.

The goal of the renovation project is for the building to become more efficient, user friendly and safer, according to Kevin Wilkerson, maintenance and waste water operator.

The project includes removing a wall to create a larger space for a workroom that will double as a classroom when needed. The front of the building also will be remodeled to create a space for poublic meetings and municipal court hearing. A state Highway Patrol office will remain in the basement.

The new location for meetings also allows for more room for people to spread out, Wilkerson said.

At tonight's meeting, city hall officials will discuss the bids of the contractors that have reached out to city hall.

"We're looking to start as soon as possible," Wilkerson said about the project, adding the goal is to complete the renovations by October.

Officials expect to open bids at tonight's meeting.

At least three bids have been received, Wilkerson said. The money for the project has been put aside for up-keeps and repairs, but Wilkerson noted that with not many up-keeps or repairs needing to be made, the money is now flowing toward the renovations.

Wilkerson added that taxes would not increase.

"We've just been blessed," he said.

Construction is only taking place inside the building.

"We're not doing anything to the outside," he said.

Wilkerson added that city hall will still be open for normal business hours during the renovation.
