JC sales taxes continue to exceed projections

For the third month in a row, Jefferson City's sales taxes have exceeded projections in all three categories.

August sales tax receipts, which reflect the June reporting period, show the city's 1 percent general sales tax came in $72,996 above projections and is $492,870 above projections for the year.

The half-cent capital improvement sales tax came in $36,667 above projections and is $265,990 above projections for the year.

The half-cent parks sales tax came in $36,891 above projections and is $268,166 above projections for the year.

The city's revenue forecast model is projecting a year-end surplus of roughly $1 million, primarily due to sales tax revenues. The city's franchise and utility tax revenue is projected to be down by roughly $360,000, primarily because of the mild winter. Finance Director Margie Mueller said even with the hot summer temperatures, it's very unlikely the city will make up the difference before the end of the fiscal year.

All of the city's financial documents from August are available online at www.jeffersoncitymo.gov/government/financial_reports.php.
