1 teen killed, 4 others seriously injured in crash

BYRNES MILL, Mo. (AP) - One teenager was killed and four others were seriously hurt when their car slid into a tree and a utility pole early Sunday.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said a 17-year-old girl from Cedar Hill died in the crash that happened around 1:45 a.m. Sunday near Byrnes Mill, which is about 25 miles southwest of St. Louis.

A different 17-year-old girl from Cedar Hill was driving the 2013 Ford Fusion when the car partially slid off the side of the road into the tree and utility pole. She was the only one wearing a seat belt in the car.

Authorities said Ross Carmickle, 18, of Fenton, was taken to a hospital in a helicopter. The driver, a 17-year-old boy from Fenton and Jenna Viehland, 18, were all taken to hospitals in ambulances.

The Highway Patrol doesn't routinely release the names of people aged 17 or younger when they are involved in crashes.
