Executive Director of Our House Callaway Misty Dothage has received a full scholarship for the Neighborhood Leadership Academy (NLA) program through MU Extension, which normally costs $325.

Neighborhood Leadership Academy helps develop personal leadership skills while providing in-depth training that emphasizes community building strategies, project planning, organizational leadership and management practices.

The program is 10 weeks and includes 30 hours of learning and interactions that will help participants hone in their leaderships skills while also gaining practical knowledge for putting their goals into action. Session topics include: community building, project planning, and funding and resource development as well as a community improvement project. Each participant will be asked to do a project, ranging from a neighborhood association to planning and implementing a community garden to a neighborhood park or youth program.

This year's fall program will be offered across the state in a virtual format, with smaller regional cohorts to allow for local discussions and applications of the program's content. All participants who complete the program will receive a University of Missouri St. Louis Chancellor's Certificate in Neighborhood Leadership. Additionally, a grant from the Missouri Foundation for Health to enhance leadership development in Missouri has been used to provide scholarships to participant across the state.

Scholarships were awarded based upon the following goals:

- Participant will be able to successfully complete NLA and their community project

- NLA's investment in the selected recipients will catalyze community improvement

- NLA will reflect the region's diversity

- NLA scholarships will increase opportunity
