Members and subscribers of Callaway Electric Cooperative and Callabyte are giving back to local organizations through bill roundup efforts as part of an initiative implemented by Callaway Electric Cooperative.

Callaway Electric members and Callabyte subscribers can now choose to participate in Operation Roundup which provides grant opportunities to local non-profit groups, organizations and qualifying individuals throughout service areas. Through the program, members and subscribers can elect to round up their bill to the nearest dollar amount, allowing them to donate roughly $6 annually, with the option to contribute more. For example, a $76.37 bill would round up $77.00, with the additional 63¢ going towards Operation Roundup.

Funds received through the program go directly to the Callaway Electric Community Foundation and are managed by a volunteer board of six Cooperative members and one Callabyte subscriber. Money is allocated to a variety of worthy causes throughout the service areas resulting from an application process. The Callaway Electric Community Foundation Board has presented 8 organizations with $500 grants since the program's kickoff in January 2021. In addition, 10 scholarships of $500 each have been awarded to local students.

"The funds received from Operation Roundup allowed First Chance for Children to best serve Callaway County families with young children that might have a need for a little extra help," Kasey Hammock, Executive Director of First Chance for Children, stated. "We are thankful for the funds from Operation Roundup so we can provide that help through our services".
