New Bloomfield outdoor siren to be installed Thursday

The City of New Bloomfield will have an outdoor warning siren installed Thursday, which will provide outdoor coverage for the entire city. Callaway County was notified in February the Federal Emergency Management Agency had approved the 75 percent Hazard Mitigation Grant match for the purchase and installation of the siren for New Bloomfield.

Residents of New Bloomfield can expect an audible test of the siren Thursday after installation is completed to ensure it is operational. If there is inclement weather in the area, an audible test will not be performed.

Unless there is inclement weather that day, sirens are tested the first Tuesday of each month at noon with a built-in back-up time of 2 p.m.

Outdoor sirens serve as a warning system for residents to go indoors and tune in to a local television or radio station from a safe location for any emergency alerts and instructions.
