Callaway County deputy assaulted near New Bloomfield

A man from Elsberry was charged Monday in connection with the alleged assault of a Callaway County Sheriff's Department deputy.

According to a sheriff's department news release, a deputy arrived to a reported rollover traffic crash at 9:32 a.m. Sunday on Highway 54 near Route J in the New Bloomfield area. The driver, Jeremy Blok, 46, was out of the vehicle and reportedly acting erratic.

Authorities said as the deputy attempted to detain Blok, a struggle ensued and while the deputy was on the ground with Blok along 54, Blok allegedly grabbed the deputy's sidearm and was attempting to disarm him. It was at that time two passing motorists stopped to offer the deputy assistance. Blok continued to resist until the deputy able to deploy an "intermediate weapon" that subdued Blok.

The Callaway County Prosecutor's Office charged Blok with felony attempting to disarm a peace officer and resisting arrest. As of Monday evening, Blok was being held without bond at the Callaway County Jail.
