Missouri School for the Deaf Superintendent George Stailey resigned last Friday.
The school is operated by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and serves students from across Missouri - residential students live on campus during the school week, while local students live at home and travel to school each day.
DESE declined to share any additional information about Stailey's departure.
MSD Assistant Superintendent Chris Daily has stepped in as interim superintendent and will continue to lead the school through the end of the school year.
"MSD advisory board members and DESE officials are working now to determine the most appropriate plans for MSD leadership moving forward," DESE Chief Communications Officer Mallory McGowin said in an email.
Stailey, who previously led the Indiana School for the Deaf, stepped into the MSD role in April 2018.
Daily was appointed assistant superintendent in 2015. Before joining MSD, Daily worked for Fulton Public Schools, serving as assistant principal at Fulton Middle School.
