The Callaway County Clerk has announced several temporary polling place changes for the April 6 elections.

On the ballot are Fulton, Auxvasse, Mokane and Holts Summit municipal elections, as well as Fulton 58, New Bloomfield R-3 and South Callaway R-1 school district races.

Fulton school district voters whose usual polling place is in Calwood should instead go to First Baptist Church at 701 Court St. in Fulton to cast their vote.

Fulton school district voters assigned to the Stephens polling location should go to Millersburg Christian Church at 4527 Route J.

South Callaway school district voters in Williamsburg should cast their vote at the Portland Community Center at 10520 Main Cross St.

School districts and municipalities cover the costs of operating polling locations during municipal elections. Callaway County Clerk Ronda Miller said it can cost more than $1,000 to open a polling place.

"This being an April municipal election, turnouts aren't the best in certain places like Calwood, Stephens and Williamsburg," Miller said. "It would probably be 50 or less voters."

Unlike other elections when there are more races at the county, state or federal level, turnout can be low for municipal elections. Similarly, North Callaway R-2 School District is not holding a school board election this time around.

"What we did is condensed them with other locations to save the entities some money," Miller said. "This is just a one-time thing."

These relocations are temporary - during future elections, Calwood, Stephens and Williamsburg polling places will be open.

Voters at any polling location can also vote absentee by submitting an absentee ballot request form and returning the ballot in-person or by mail to the clerk's office at 10 E. Fifth St. in Fulton.
