Commission let stand Callaway road improvements contract

Many states have laws against driving in the left lane except for passing or turning left, which are often ignored by drivers, leading to annoying and dangerous bottlenecks that some experts say are as bad as driving too fast because people get trapped behind and become frustrated prompting some to drive more aggressively. A road and guardrail improvements project contract for various I-70 outer roads in Callaway County has received approval by the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission, according to a Missouri Department of Transportation press release.

During its meeting Wednesday, the MHTC awarded the contract to Christensen Construction Co., which submitted the low bid of $833,949.93.

Most of the work would require daily lane closures during work hours. The project is expected to begin this summer and be completed by December. MoDOT will release more specifics on the project - including start dates and lane closures - once a more precise timeline has been established.
