St. Louis man charged in beating death of 2-year-old son

ST. LOUIS (AP) - A St. Louis man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his 2-year-old son.

Dewight D. Williams, 25, was also charged Monday with child abuse resulting in death and child endangerment after his son, Jeremiah Williams, died on Feb. 15, 2020.

Doctors said the child died of brain trauma and his death was ruled a homicide, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

After Jeremiah's mother found the boy pale and unresponsive at the family's home, Williams gave conflicting accounts of how he was injured, according to charging documents.

The Circuit Attorney's Office declined charges in the case last year and Williams was released pending a follow-up investigation.

He was not in custody Thursday and had no lawyer listed in court records.
