The Fulton Sun welcomes new editor

After 30 years mostly as sports editor at the Fulton Sun, Ryan Boland is in the editor's seat.

Boland previously served two brief stints as the Sun's news editor.

"I'm looking forward to helping enhance the newspaper's strong news coverage in working with reporter Olivia Garrett," Boland said. "I firmly believe that the Fulton Sun is one of the best small-town newspapers in the state of Missouri."

Boland and his wife Kati Boland - principal at Fulton High School - live in Fulton.

Previous editor and reporter Helen Wilbers is moving to Colorado to continue pursuing her career.

Wilbers joined the Fulton Sun as a reporter in 2016 and became the editor upon previous editor Jenny Gray's retirement in June 2019.

She said she's proud of the accolades the Fulton Sun earned during her tenure, including multiple Missouri Press Foundation awards, the Corporate Callaway Historic Preservation Award and the United States Tiger Foundation's Distinguished Journalism Award.

Friday was Wilbers' last official day as editor.

"I'll miss living in Callaway County and telling the stories of all its colorful residents," she said. "Fulton was a great place to call home."

Boland welcomes comments and story ideas. To reach him, send an email to [email protected] or [email protected], or call 573-826-2422.
