Fulton Public Schools has named a new director of special services and federal programs.

Beginning July 1, Dr. Cheri Fortney will join the FPS team.

Fortney, who currently serves as the director of K-12 at Franklin County Special Education Cooperative, has 23 years of experience in education.

Franklin County Special Education Cooperative provides special education services for 13 Missouri school districts.

"I am excited to be a part of the Fulton schools," Fortney said.

Fortney became interested in the area of special education while working as a paraprofessional at Epworth Children & Family Services in St. Louis.

"I fell in love with working with children with behavioral challenges," Fortney said. "I had a degree in education, but my experience at Epworth really changed me."

Fortney also worked as a special education director and federal programs coordinator in the Steelville R-3 School District.
