Council approved $0.10 gas rate increase

The Fulton City Council approved a gas rate increase of $0.10 at its Tuesday night meeting with a 6-2 vote. The next City Council meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 14 in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 18 E. 4th St.

The Fulton City Council approved a gas rate increase of $0.10 at its Tuesday night meeting with a 6-2 vote.

The increase will start with the late October 2021 billing cycle in order to create an adequate revenue stream to repay the loan as required in the Municipal Utility Emergency Loan Program agreement authorized by the City Council.

They choose to raise the unit rate rather than the base charge in order to allow low-income customers to access energy assistance that may otherwise not be available for base charge increased.

Board members heard from representatives of the Kingdom Homeschool Board about requesting a fee waiver for Ingle Pavilion on Tuesday and Morgan Soccer Pavilion on Saturday, May 14, 2022. Denise Kingsley, on behalf of Coalition Against Rape and Domestic Violence, also requesting a fee waiver for Seaman Field for Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021. Both requests were granted.

They received an update on the Legends Rec-Plex facility. It has continued to see an increase in memberships. They are planning to start promoting their birthday and wedding packages to showcase their banquet center. They are continuing with their different events and classes, but have seen an increase of people utilizing the facility more and more.

Members approved a resolution authorizing Fulton Mayor Lowe Cannell on behalf of the City of Fulton to make application and sign all necessary documents in relation to the Mild Missouri Solid Waste Management District Region H Small Grant and establishing an effective date.

Council members heard the first reading of an ordinance fixing the tax rate and levying taxes for the calendar year of 2021, on all taxable property in the city of Fulton, and establishing an effective date. The ordinance was motioned and approved for a second reading at the next meeting.

They will also heard a second reading of an ordinance that will authorize Fulton Mayor Lowe Cannell to execute all necessary documents in relation to the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission Cost Share Agreement regarding Route Business 54 Project #J5S3591 and establishing an effective date. It was motioned to a third reading that evening, and approved by all members.

The next City Council meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 14 in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 18 E. 4th St.
