An individual has been targeting Fulton businesses and Callaway Chamber of Commerce members with a scam in connection with the city's Tanglewood Golf Course, according to an email from the chamber on Monday.

Fulton city officials alerted the chamber to the scam. An individual has been either calling or emailing local businesses, asking them to purchase a sponsorship for the Tanglewood scorecard.

The scam email, provided by the chamber, reads:

"Good morning, I will be finishing up the sponsorship for the golf course and I still need your industry. If you reply that you will participate, I will give you a HEADLINER spot for $395 just for helping me finish. Normally $795. Will that work for you?"

A previous email from the scammer was seeking 12-month sponsorships at $425 per hole at Tanglewood or $795 for the scorecard.

Tanglewood officials informed the city it is not currently asking for sponsorships for the course of any kind, the chamber explained in its email.

If businesses are contacted about the scam sponsorship, they are asked to either delete the email or decline if called.
