The Callaway County Health Department is warning of a potential mass COVID-19 exposure event during a recent funeral.
"We have a positive case of COVID-19 that attended this funeral during their infectious period," CCHD Executive Director Sharon Lynch explained.
This individual attended a funeral at 11 a.m. Sept. 17 at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton.
Anyone who attended this funeral should watch for signs and symptoms of COVID-19, Lynch warned.
Common symptoms of COVID-19 include fever over 100.4 degrees F, headache, muscle aches, cough, sinus drainage, sneezing and other flu-like symptoms, according to the Callaway County Health Department.
Other known symptoms may include difficulty breathing, sore throat, diarrhea, nausea, fatigue, and loss of taste or smell, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Anyone who develops any of these symptoms should contact their health care provider about testing and stay home until they receive test results, the CCHD stated.
This is the first time the Callaway County Health Department has issued an alert of this type during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
"We are just trying to let people know of the potential for transmission," Lynch said. "In a large group of people, it is hard telling who anyone was near for any length of time."
As of Thursday afternoon, Callaway County was reporting 90 active cases of COVID-19 throughout the county.
