The deadline to register for the November general election is Oct. 7.

The Fulton NAACP is working to ensure as many qualified voters are registered as possible. Both hosted voter registration events this week. The NAACP set up a booth Wednesday at the Fulton Farmers Market and also plans to be at the farmers market Saturday. The Saturday market runs from 8 a.m.-noon in front of the Callaway County Courthouse in Fulton.

Those hoping to register should bring a valid ID, such as a driver's license.

"Voting is an American right - people have fought and died for it," said Donald Glover, one of the volunteers at the booth Wednesday. "And we've been led to believe it's most critical election year we've ever had."

In addition to providing voter registration help, NAACP volunteers have information about the various ways to vote this year: in-person, absentee and by mail-in ballot.

"Everyone needs to vote," volunteer Neal Powers said. "We're so committed to that, we're going to provide transportation to the polls on Election Day."

He's also willing to drive people to the courthouse to drop off mail-in ballots, regardless of the voter's political affiliation, he said. To request a ride, call 636-544-9985.

"My goal is to make sure everyone who wants to vote, can," he said. "We need to get everyone to turn out - the election won't be legitimate otherwise."

The NAACP held a similar voter registration event over the Independence Day holiday ahead of the Aug. 4 state and county primary. Glover said they had a handful of sign-ups at that event - most locals are already registered, he said.

Westminster College has also been hosting a registration drive this week. Today, Westminster students can stop by the Hunter Activity Center or dining hall to register.

Missouri voters may check their voter registration status at s1.sos.mo.gov/elections/voterlookup. Hopeful voters must be 18 years old as of Nov. 3 to participate. People unable to attend the drive may register at s1.sos.mo.gov/elections/voterregistration or in person at the Callaway County Clerk's office; view other options at bit.ly/3ihAfso. Mailed voter registration forms must be postmarked by Oct. 7.
