Less than a week after the other most recent COVID-19 death, a fifth individual has died in Callaway County, according to the Callaway County Health Department.

The CCHD announced the death Tuesday afternoon. As with previous deaths, the CCHD didn't release any additional information about the deceased.

"With deep regret, Callaway County Public Health must announce the loss of another Callaway County Community member due to the Coronavirus," the department wrote in an update posted to CallawayCOVID19.com. "This brings the total number of deaths to five. Please keep the family and friends of this person in your thoughts and prayers."

The fourth death attributed to COVID-19 was announced Oct. 7; the third death occurred Sept. 9.

Additionally, the county set a new record for active cases Tuesday at 203. Cases within Fulton city limits also reached a new high Tuesday with 25, the City of Fulton reported on Facebook. That's nearly double Friday's total of 13. The city receives this data from the CCHD.

That number doesn't include cases at Westminster College, William Woods University and the Fulton Reception and Diagnostic Center, each of which report their own numbers. The Department of Corrections website lists 70 active cases at FRDC (63 among incarcerated individuals and 7 among employees); however, it's unclear when that number was last updated. Neither William Woods nor Westminster reported any active cases as of Tuesday.

Since Oct. 6, Callaway County has added 154 new cases of the disease.

Since the pandemic began, the CCHD has recorded 894 cases of COVID-19 in the county, with 686 of those patients having recovered so far.
