South Callaway honors retirees at BoE meeting

Three South Callaway R-2 employees were honored at Wednesday's Board of Education meeting for their dedication to the district and years of service to education. Shonna Nichols, Craig Snethen and Kathryn Zimmerman will retire at the close of the 2019-20 school year.

Nichols has worked at the South Callaway R-2 Early Childhood building for six years, first as a kindergarten teacher and most recently as the building library media specialist and math interventionist. Previously, Nichols owned a state-licensed preschool for 10 years and taught third grade in Jefferson City Public Schools for 13 years, totalling 29 years as a professional educator in Missouri.

Snethen has served as the South Callaway district instructional technology specialist for the past 10 years. Snethen began his teaching career at Albany R-3 for three years before spending the next 20 years at Fulton Public Schools. He has devoted a total of 33 years of service to public education in Missouri as a teacher, E-Mints instructor, coach and instructional technology specialist.

Zimmerman is retiring after 15 years at South Callaway Elementary as a classroom teacher. She has spent the last six years as a district instructional coach for early childhood and elementary. In addition, Zimmerman taught for two years at Jefferson City High School; seven years at Dzilth-Na-O-Dith-Hle Community School, New Mexico (Bureau of Indian Education); six years at Pueblo Pintado Community School, New Mexico (Bureau of Indian Education); and six years at Renaissance School, a private school in Salida, Colorado. She has devoted 36 years to teaching.
