New Bloomfield High School elaborated on its plan for graduation.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing efforts, the school can't hold its usual ceremony, scheduled for May 15.

Instead, seniors will be separated into three groups based on last name, 17 or 18 students in each group.

"We are having three ceremonies in the gym with social distancing of graduates and families," Superintendent Sarah Wisdom said in an email. "Each graduate will have 10 family members of their choice at the ceremony."

The first ceremony, A-Har, will begin at 3 p.m. The second, Hal-Se, and third, Sh-W, will follow at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. respectively.

Each ceremony is expected to last an hour - Wisdom said they have allowed an hour for cleaning between ceremonies.

"We will have staff on hand to clean bleachers, doors and bathrooms between," Wisdom said.

The valedictorian and salutatorian will speak at each ceremony. The events will also be streamed on Facebook Live for the community to watch.

The week before graduation, New Bloomfield students will have the chance to clean out lockers, pay any fines and drop off textbooks, library books and laptops. Students will only be allowed inside with one parent.
