Callaway woman dies in one-car wreck

Callaway County residents were involved in multiple accidents - including three fatal crashes - over the past week.

A 74-year-old Callaway County woman was killed in a one-car accident Monday night in Callaway County, according to a Missouri Highway Patrol press release.

Kathleen L. Sieland, of Portland, was traveling westbound in a 2006 Honda Element on Missouri 94 at County Road 453 when her vehicle traveled off the right side of the highway. Sieland overcorrected and returned to the highway, then overcorrected again and her vehicle went off the right side of the road a second time and hit an embankment.

Sieland was pronounced dead at the scene by Boone County medical examiner Dori Burke at 7:08 p.m. Monday. Sieland was wearing a seat belt, and her vehicle received extensive damage.

The accident was MSHP Troop F's 14th fatality for June and 34th for 2020 to date.

A Camdenton man died Monday afternoon after his vehicle was hit by a Fulton woman's vehicle in Camden County, according to an MSHP press release.

Tracy M. Kemp, 60, of Fulton, was traveling northbound in a 2012 Mazda 6 on Missouri 5 - north of the Business 5 overpass - when her vehicle rear-ended a 1990 Ford F150 driven by Tommy D. Ward, 70, of Camdenton.

Ward's vehicle was forced off the right side of the highway, hit an embankment and overturned, ejecting Ward. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Jason Funke with the Camden County medical examiner's office at 2:33 p.m. Monday.

Kemp - who was not injured - was wearing a seat belt, but Ward was not.

A 67-year-old Fulton man was also killed when he was struck by a vehicle last Saturday night in Callaway County, according to an MSHP press release.

Aaron L. Buchholz, 37, of Steedman, was driving a 2002 Dodge Dakota pickup southbound on County Road 133 - north of Route CC - when he struck Richard A. Smith, who was walking on the road. Buchholz was unable to see Smith due to an oncoming vehicle's headlights, the MSHP stated.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by medical examiner Stacy Huck at 9:41 p.m. Saturday.

Buchholz - who was not injured - was wearing a seat belt and his vehicle received moderate damage.
