Weather concerns cancel events

In light of predicted freezing rain, several events planned for today and this weekend have been pre-emptively canceled.

As of Thursday morning, the National Weather Service predicted wintry mix beginning at 5 a.m. this morning, followed by freezing rain throughout the day. The predicted high is 34 degrees. NWS expects snow and sleet accumulation of 1-2 inches, plus ice accumulation between one-tenth and on-fifth of an inch. More ice may follow tonight.

William Woods University has postponed the 150th anniversary kick-off event previously scheduled for 10 a.m. today. The university intends to reschedule the event at another time.

During the course of the year, WWU will hold events commemorating five major historical people, events or programs from the university's history, while also honoring some current features of the institution.

Callaway County Public Library has canceled its planned Friends of the Library Book Sale, including the Friday Early Bird Sale and the general Saturday sale.

More cancelations could be forthcoming. Before traveling to attend any events listed in the Community Calendar, the Fulton Sun recommends calling ahead and double-checking they're still happening.
