Stolen vehicle recovered after pursuit

KINGDOM CITY - The Callaway County Sheriff's Office recovered a stolen vehicle and arrested a Columbia man Wednesday following a pursuit.

A deputy patrolling the Kingdom City area at 3:05 p.m. recognized a stolen vehicle from Columbia at a business in the 3000 block of County Road 211. As the vehicle left the business, the deputy attempted to stop it. Instead, Joseph Jenkins, 25, failed to stop and a lengthy pursuit ensued, according to the arrest report.

Jenkins travelled from eastbound U.S. 54 to westbound Interstate 70, then north on Route M and west on Route E. At the intersection of routes E and DD, west of Hatton near the Audrain/Boone County line, Jenkins crashed the stolen vehicle into a ditch. He then refused to exit the vehicle, according to the CCSO.

Deputies removed Jenkins from the vehicle and took him to the Callaway County Jail for felony tampering with a motor vehicle, felony resisting arrest, felony property damage, stealing and numerous traffic charges. As of Thursday, Jenkins was being held without bond pending a court bond setting.

At the time of the incident, Jenkins was under the supervision of the Missouri Board of Probation and Parole for first-degree burglary and forgery, both felony offenses, the CCSO added.
