Person shot by Fulton police officer dies

A person shot by a Fulton police officer Monday has since died, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.

A Fulton Police Department officer reported the shooting, which took place behind McIntire Elementary School, at approximately 9:47 p.m. Monday. The Highway Patrol was immediately called to investigate the incident, according to police reports.

The involved officer is on administrative leave, Fulton Police Chief Steve Myers confirmed Thursday.

The officer has not been publicly identified, nor has the person who was shot.

Myers said the officer is being paid while on leave; what happens next will be determined by the results of the Highway Patrol's investigation, he said.

"The investigation is still ongoing, and an autopsy is scheduled for today," Sgt. Scott White of the Highway Patrol's Troop F said Thursday.

White was unable to confirm the time of death and other details.
