Next week, locals can help bite back against cancer just by going out to eat.

The American Cancer Society has partnered with three Callaway County restaurants that will donate at least 10 percent of their sales on one or more days during the week of Feb. 24-29. Funds raised will further life-saving research and provide services to those facing cancer.

"This is our fourth year to do it in Callaway County," Joy Shawley, of the ACS, said. "1851 Underground and Playhouse Bistro have always participated; they're wonderful partners. And we're so excited this year to have BluTaco joining us too."

Participants this year include:

Playhouse Bistro at 613 Court St. in Fulton: Monday and Wednesday. Donating 15 percent.

1851 Underground Tap & Grill at 111 E. 5th St. in Fulton: Tuesday through Saturday. Donating 15 percent.

BluTaco at 135 City Plaza in Holt Summit: Thursday. Donating 10 percent.

"It's good to give back for a cause that affects everyone," said Bryan Hanneke, owner of 1851 Underground.

Shawley said that in the past, this campaign has raised more than a thousand dollars each year for the ACS.

If a restaurant owner is interested in participating next year, they can reach Shawley at 573-310-1587.

The ACS is the largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, raising funds through events such as Relay for Life and the Stick a Fork in Cancer campaign. In addition to funding research, the ACS also supports cancer screening and preventative practices, offers assistance and support programs for people who've been diagnosed with cancer, and lobbies lawmakers to pass laws related to health care and medical research.

Callaway County's annual Relay for Life fundraising event is scheduled for June 12. To learn more, follow the "Relay for Life of Callaway County" page on Facebook.
