South Callaway recognizes school board members

Missourians benefit every day from the dedicated energies and countless hours devoted by a group of more than 3,600 men and women who serve as local school board members in every community across the state.

At South Callaway R-2 Schools and all Missouri school districts, these public servants are elected by local constituents and do not receive compensation for their tireless efforts on behalf of district students, parents, teachers and employees.

During the week of Feb. 9-15, South Callaway R-2 joins communities around the state in honoring these individuals during School Board Recognition Week as proclaimed by Gov. Mike Parson. The goal is to build awareness and understanding of the important function these elected board of education members play in our community and school, and to thank them for their service.

South Callaway R-2 Board of Education President Todd Mealy, along with Vice President Stephanie Laney and members Micah Benningfield, Janice Howard, Sharon Frazee, Brent Wood and Penny Felkner make up this governing body that plays a vital role in the education of Callaway County children living in the South Callaway district.

They will be recognized during this time with a special meal before the monthly board meeting prepared and hosted by the SCHS Pro-Start class, announcements and introductions at athletic events, parent-teacher conferences and more.

School Board Recognition Week is sponsored by the Missouri School Boards' Association. MSBA is a private, nonprofit organization that exists to help school boards succeed.
