This column serves as a spotlight, highlighting the everyday people in Callaway County. The Fulton Sun takes a moment with someone who is not usually featured in the news but is just as instrumental in making our community the strong and beautiful place we all know and love.

Zach Collins, 16, has lived in Fulton for most of his life. His family moved to the area when he was 5. Collins is a homeschool student who enjoys reading and writing.

Q: What was your first job?

I just got a job at GOPO Gourmet Popcorn.

Q: What do you want to do when you're older?

My ambitions are to go to State Tech and learn something about computers so I can pay the bills and become a writer. I want to write fiction - fantasy.

Q: What is a job you don't want to do?

Anything that's too social - I guess something like being an ambassador or a representative. Too many people.

Q: Who inspires you most?

J. R. R. Tolkein as far as celebrities go. (Tolkein is the author of "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit").

Q: What is something you're proud of?

I'm proud of my writing and reading skills.

Q: What in your life has been the most fulfilling?

My volunteer work at the free store. I hang up clothes, organize the shed and haul furniture away.

Q: What is something no one would guess about you?

I'm part of a foster family. I'm not fostered, but my family has foster children. That's something people might not guess.

Q: What is your favorite thing about Callaway County?

It's very open. There are a lot of very nice people.
