Fulton Medical Center Auxiliary announces scholarships

The Fulton Medical Center Auxiliary announces their 2020 scholarship recipients. Four scholarships were awarded for the 2020-21 school year, each for $1,000. Recipients included Kaylie Miller, Abigail Schattgen, William Jeffries and Rachel Pezold.

Kaylie Miller is the daughter of Theresa and Justin Miller, of Steedman, and is a 2020 graduate of South Callaway High School. She has a compiled 3.76 GPA and is ranked seventh in her class of 56 students. Kaylie has also participated in activities outside the classroom, including varsity softball throughout her high school years, and she received the Academic All-State award for the 2019 softball season. She has also been involved in National Honors Society, Athletic Association, FFA, Fine Arts Club, Math Relays, Spanish Club and Bulldog Nation, in addition to working part-time jobs. Kaylie will be attending State Technical College of Missouri for the Medical Radiology Technology Program.

Abigail Schattgen, daughter of Kimmi and Tod Schattgen, is a 2020 graduate of New Bloomfield High School, where she has maintained a 4.012 GPA and was ranked sixth in her class of 53 students. She began her involvement in team swimming at the age of 5, and since August 2019 has served as assistant coach of the YMCA of Callaway County Swim Team. On her travels to the Virgin Islands in 2019, she taught swim lessons to local children who had not had the opportunity before to learn.

Abbie has acquired leadership and organizational skills through active participation in several school-based organizations: FBLA, STEM Club, NJHS, Student Council, as current president of the New Bloomfield Chapter National Honor Society, cross country, and varsity track and field. She has also served several years as a volunteer for the Special Olympics and Buddy Pack Programs, volunteered her time to the Samaritan Center, the New Bloomfield Historical Society. She's also served as a church youth teacher. Abbie also assists the Civic Association with the Gallery of Flags and Celebrate America activities.

She will enter the University of Missouri in the Fall 2020 class, with 27 college credit hours already earned through dual-credit ITV college classes while in high school. Abbie has been accepted in the pre-physical therapy program, and she plans to pursue a doctorate degree in physical therapy and specialize in athletic injuries and child rehabilitation.

William Jeffries is the son of Kathleen and Michael Jeffries, and is a 2020 graduate of North Callaway High School. He is ranked 13th out of 85 students in his graduating class, and has maintained a 3.703 GPA while taking Honors and dual-credit courses.

Will has been a three-sport varsity athlete (football, basketball and track) while also participating in several other activities: marching band, FBLA officer, STUCO president, two-time delegate for NCHS to State Student Council, STUCO Summer Camp, president of the Callaway Kids Bank, NHS member and youth volunteer basketball coach. Will plans to attend Missouri S&T, where he will pursue a degree in biological sciences, with the ultimate goal of becoming a physician's assistant.

Rachel Pezold is the daughter of Michael and Lori Pezold. Rachel is graduating from North Callaway High School with a 3.953 GPA and ranked fourth out of 85 in her class. She has successfully completed many dual credit classes while in high school and will enter college as a sophomore in the fall of 2020.

Throughout her high school years, Rachel has been involved in many extracurricular activities, including Renaissance Club, Biology Club, Future Teachers of America, Students Against Destructive Decisions, secretary of National Honors Society and volleyball. She is also active in her church through assisting with the preschool and kindergarten Sunday School program, and playing piano with the youth music ensemble. Rachel has been accepted at the University of Missouri, where she plans to major in health professions. She plans to pursue certification as an ultrasonographer.

FMC Auxiliary committee members include Sandy Edwards, chair, Mary Ann Echelmeier, Gwen Grogan and Bonnie Shiverdecker.
