Though Fulton's annual Bubble Blowout event was canceled Monday, area children stayed cool at the Fulton Splash Pad.

After a break from the scorching heat of summer following rain in late July, Mid-Missouri's temperature jumped back to the 90s. Monday's high was around 93 degrees, with a heat index well more than 100, before cooling with a passing storm front Monday evening.

Elsewhere in Monday's heat, Fulton workers prepared the intersection of Jefferson and 5th streets to be bricked over once more following extensive roadwork in the area. The process involves leveling the ground, pouring concrete, laying down a layer of sand and then painstakingly replacing each and every brick.
