The Callaway Energy Center will soon send its 2020 annual calendar to the public.

You may want to hang it somewhere handy.

Residents living in the 10-mile emergency planning zone will be receiving the calendar in the mail over the next two months, according to Anne Roselius, manager of communications at Ameren. The calendar includes updated facts and statistics about the nuclear power plant and provides any necessary emergency planning information.

"The information in this calendar is important; it tells you what to do should a nuclear emergency occur at Ameren Missouri's Callaway Energy Center," the calendar reads.

According to the calendar's facts and statistics, the plant accounted for 19 percent of Ameren Missouri in 2018, making it the second largest energy producer in the system.

The plant also achieved its fifth "breaker-to-breaker run" in 2018-19, which means the plant operated continuously for 467 days. The local power plant is only one of 26 of the nation's 96 power plants to achieve a "breaker-to-breaker run," according to the calendar.

"We recently got an award from an industry organization for our equipment reliability," said Mark McLachlan, senior director of plant support.

The plant also generated 10.6 million megawatt-hours of electricity in 2018, which is enough to supply the needs of 800,000 average households, the calendar says. The plant has also achieved the fourth highest lifetime generation among all nuclear power plants in the United States and the 12th of 425 nuclear power plants in the world.

The calendar also says there was a "force-on-force" exercise conducted at the plant in 2019.

"Although details are confidential, plant security personnel performed at a very high level, resulting in no regulatory findings, violations or unresolved items," the calendar says.

In the case of an evacuation, the calendar lists its reception centers located outside of the emergency planning zone that will provide shelter for residents of the evacuated areas. The four reception centers include Hearnes Multi-Purpose Building on the University of Missouri campus in Columbia, the Jason Gym and Soldier's Hall on the Lincoln University campus in Jefferson City, Montgomery County R-2 Middle School and Hermann Middle School.

Siren tests will take place the first Tuesday of each month throughout 2020. The calendar also includes colorful photographs taken by employees of the power plant.
