Despite Callaway County's purchase of the property, The Mattress Store will remain in business at its current location for now.

John Blattner, owner of The Mattress Store, confirmed the county had purchased the building and property for potential future use. However, he said the county has given his business up to two years to relocate.

"At the end of two years, they said that, if the ballot passes, they will definitely move forward with fully utilizing the space, and if not, they would still plan to move some things into the building. I will be out one way or another," Blattner said.

Blattner said the county will not be operating within The Mattress Store while the business is still operational. While the store could theoretically be relocated in as little as a matter of weeks or months, Blattner said he plans to take his time.

"We're going to take our full time until we find something we really feel good about,"he said.

Blattner said he was glad to work with the county and welcomed the opportunity when they approached him. He said he was grateful for having two years to find the right next location.

"We wanted to work with the county so they could go forward with what they want to do," he said. "We wanted to help them if we could, but we want to take care of ourselves first."
