Though the Kingdom of Callaway Historical Society's new research center opened in July, local history fans officially commemorated the occasion with a ribbon cutting Wednesday morning.

"I did this in 1998 at the (museum) building - next time it'll be someone else," said museum director Barbara Huddleston, who wielded the giant scissors.

The new facility, at 106 E. Fourth St. in Fulton, holds the society's archives, research spaces, a boardroom and a kitchenette. The society purchased the building from Callaway Bank and hopes to get it paid off in 2020, in time for KCHSoc's 60th birthday.

The facility is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. every third Saturday, just like the KCHSoc museum.
