Body found in Missouri River in Callaway County

Authorities recovered the body of an unknown male Tuesday evening in the Missouri River in Callaway County.

The Callaway County Sheriff's Department and Osage County Sheriff's Department were involved in the recovery effort along with the Missouri Highway Patrol.

Osage County Sheriff Mike Bonham reported that the body was found in some brush by fishermen. It was approximately 300 yards from the mouth of the Osage River.

The body of the white male was recovered around 5 p.m. The facial feature were severely decomposed, according to Bonham. They did find a tattoo which they hope will help in identifying the man.

Bonham said an autopsy will be done on the body. He also said that there are no current missing person reports they are aware of in Central Missouri.
